    Position: Carpenter

    Department: Arena Operations

    Reports to: Manager, Engineering Services

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Following specifications, the carpenter will build, assemble, install, and repair fixtures and structures within Rogers Arena. The Carpenter will also be responsible for performing high quality finishing carpentry at a journey level and for providing expert project advice.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    (Other duties may be assigned as required)

    • Provide professional carpentry advice and suggestions for improved project quality and efficiencies
    • Perform cabinet making and other finishing duties at a professional level
    • Maintain executive suites, arena concourse, offices, concession, dining rooms, and building exterior envelope
    • Maintain and repair interior and exterior doors, including installing door hardware
    • Install, maintain, and repair office furniture, cabinetry, and plastic laminate
    • Maintain and repair concert stage components
    • Perform minor drywall and flooring repair, painting, and staining
    • Work on small plumbing projects as well as minor metal-working projects, including welding, cutting, and grinding
    • Install and remove building signage
    • Hang and move pictures, white boards, and corkboards and attend to other office needs
    • Maintain the shop's Health & Safety procedures, material inventory, and shop equipment
    • Assist Building Operators and Conversions team in general building duties and set up
    • Assist Ice Crew with installation and maintenance of ice sheet REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
      • 7-10 years of building maintenance experience with a strong emphasis on carpentry-related duties
      • A valid BC Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry and Red Seal in Carpentry
      • Solid understanding of commercial construction practices
      • Extensive knowledge of stationary shop tools and hand tools
      • Experience reading blueprints and building specifications
      • High quality cabinet making skills
      • Some plumbing, welding, and mechanical experience
      • Experience working with plastic laminate, stains, lacquers, and paints
      • Ability to take initiative and work well under minimal supervision
      • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; strong customer service focus
      • Superior organization skills and excellent attention to detail and quality
      • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff, guests, promoters, clients, corporate partners, suppliers, and contractors
