JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:


  • The Business & Economic Development (BED) Team focuses on delivering initiatives, projects,
and activities that advance the switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity and attract new load to
BC Hydro's service territory.

  • This role will lead the development and implementation of unique commercial agreements and
other strategic initiatives to facilitate new load additions.

  • This opportunity is best suited to someone who is a strategic thinker, has strong commercial
acumen, initiative, and the ability to deliver under pressure. Relevant experience and a proven
track record in business development is a key requirement.

Duties include:

  • Provides project and commercial leadership for a broad portfolio of industrial electrification
initiatives

  • Leads the development and negotiation of unique, strategic commercial solutions for complex,
multi-faceted, high impact issues using a principles-based approach, judgement, and knowledge
of the utility business.

  • Conducts customer and stakeholder needs assessment to develop solutions in response to
complex and sensitive queries raised by internal and external clients

  • Facilitates collaboration and creative thinking across business groups to identify and implement
innovative solutions

  • Manages business case development for complex projects, including developing and reviewing
alternatives, financial analysis, and securing executive approvals

  • Applies judgement with respect to the development of project valuation methodologies
(qualitative and quantitative)- Ensures that the purpose, justification, and cash flow profile of proposed capital spending is

aligned with the plan- Researches, gathers, and presents supporting information such that business initiatives can be

communicated and implemented- Responds to inquiries and requests regarding business cases and business decisions.

  • Resolves issues, identifies and communicates risks, and ensures appropriate risk management
initiatives are identified and implemented.- Develops project timelines and manages projects consistent with senior management

requirements- Works collaboratively with customers and internal business groups such as Key Account

Management, Customer Interconnections, Engineering, Transmission Planning, Project Delivery,
- and Indigenous Relations to ensure business strategies and goals are met.
  • Builds and manages relationships with internal and external senior decisionmakers.

Qualifications:

***- 10+ years' experience in business development, contract development and negotiation, or

similar experience in a regulated or comparable industry- A university degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Engineering or related discipline

and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience- Strong business acumen and commercial competency

  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving capabilities for complex and multifaceted commercial,
technical, and legal/regulatory issues- Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make

complex information simple and summarize key facts for decision makers- Excellent relationship management, negotiation, and facilitation skills

  • Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with staff at all levels including senior management
  • Ability to develop and manage large scale, complex projects
  • Strong understanding of the regulated electric utility business is preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Structured Decision Making is an asset
