What do you offer?


The Kitchen Assistant is accountable to the Director of Child Care and will function as a team member responsible for overseeing the function of the kitchen, ensuring that meals and afternoon snacks are delivered to the program rooms in a timely fashion.

The Kitchen Assistant will also provide support to the teachers during busy transition times at the lunch hour allowing Teachers the time to focus on the children.

This is a contract until June 30, 2024. Hours are 10am to 1pm from Monday to Friday.


Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Delivering lunches to the program rooms.
  • Ensuring that staff members have the necessary items for lunch distribution.
  • Ensuring leftover food and dishes are tidied up and stored according to Public Health Guidelines.
  • Cleaning, washing, sterilizing and storing all dishes according to Public Health Guidelines.
  • Carrying out housekeeping duties as required.
  • Setting out snacks and appropriate dishes on trolleys for staff.
  • Ensuring that appropriate substitute meals and snacks are provided for children with food allergies and/or dietary restrictions, in consultation with other staff.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

Education

  • Current Food Handler's Certificate required

Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Basic knowledge of child development
  • High level of interpersonal and written skills

Additional Requirements:


  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
