Intentionally following Jesus Christ and partnering with the community, The Mustard Seed combats the root causes of poverty in Alberta and works to create positive, lasting change in the lives of those we serve.

The Mustard Seed provides basic services—food, clothing and housing, and support services—education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta and British Columbia.

Position Type:
Seasonal Employment, Full time

Hourly Rate:
$15.00 per hour

Duration: 8 weeks, 30 hours per week (8:00am to 3:30pm)

Housing Support Supervisor

Location:
Edmonton, AB

Number of Positions to Fill: 1 position

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide client support with daily living skills, medication administering and managing tenancy
Document client interactions in Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), and maintain shift notes
Provide addiction support using harm reduction philosophy and strategies
Act as an advocate to assist clients with accessing community resources and external supports
Provide crisis intervention, as necessary
Provide input into program development and community resources

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Degree/Diploma in Human Services field (can be in the process of obtaining) and two years of related work experience
Experience working with case management, addiction and mental health is considered a strong asset
Minimum one year work experience working with those experiencing homelessness; direct experience with Housing First initiatives considered a strong asset
Knowledge of Edmonton's community resources
Ability to de escalate and problem solve with individuals under the influence and/or struggling with a mental health crisis
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with culturally diverse clients, including a familiarity with the Indigenous culture
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, members of a team, and community agencies
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to accomplish goals with mínimal supervision
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs); experience with Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) an asset; Knowledge of FOIP and ability to observe confidentiality standards

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position will require ongoing compassionate care, mínimal physical effort, conflict resolution and organizational ability while working directly with risk population in recovery
This position requires varied mental and emotional effort and must be able to respond appropriately to intense situations
As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our Statement of Faith
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a fulltime basis for anyone other than current employer
Employment Security and Vulnerable Sector Check is required

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADA SUMMER JOBS

Be between 18 and 30 years of age
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Not a member of the Immediate Family of the Employer or a member of the Immediate Family of an officer or director of the Employer
International students are not eligible participants
