The Mustard Seed provides basic services—food, clothing and housing, and support services—education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta and British Columbia.

Seasonal Employment, Full time


Hourly Rate:
$15.00 per hour


Duration: 8 weeks, 30 hours per week (8:00am to 3:30pm)

Housing Support Supervisor

Number of Positions to Fill: 1 position


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide client support with daily living skills, medication administering and managing tenancy
  • Document client interactions in Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), and maintain shift notes
  • Provide addiction support using harm reduction philosophy and strategies
  • Act as an advocate to assist clients with accessing community resources and external supports
  • Provide crisis intervention, as necessary
  • Provide input into program development and community resources

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Services field (can be in the process of obtaining) and two years of related work experience
  • Experience working with case management, addiction and mental health is considered a strong asset
  • Minimum one year work experience working with those experiencing homelessness; direct experience with Housing First initiatives considered a strong asset
  • Knowledge of Edmonton's community resources
  • Ability to de escalate and problem solve with individuals under the influence and/or struggling with a mental health crisis
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with culturally diverse clients, including a familiarity with the Indigenous culture
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, members of a team, and community agencies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to accomplish goals with mínimal supervision
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs); experience with Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) an asset; Knowledge of FOIP and ability to observe confidentiality standards

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position will require ongoing compassionate care, mínimal physical effort, conflict resolution and organizational ability while working directly with risk population in recovery
  • This position requires varied mental and emotional effort and must be able to respond appropriately to intense situations
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our Statement of Faith
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a fulltime basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Employment Security and Vulnerable Sector Check is required

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADA SUMMER JOBS

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Not a member of the Immediate Family of the Employer or a member of the Immediate Family of an officer or director of the Employer
  • International students are not eligible participants
