The Opportunity

Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Operations Accounting Planning & Analysis. Based in Calgary, AB, this role will report to the Director, North American Operations Accounting.


The Operations Accounting Analysis team supports Vermilion's Canadian and US Business Units and is responsible for: providing insightful accounting analysis that supports and drives the best possible business decisions; managing the accounting oversight over the annual budgeting and forecasting process; and administering, supporting, and improving the key processes and tools that underpin both.

The Manager, Operations Accounting Planning & Analysis will help guide the strategic direction, mentorship, and performance management of this team in addition to individually delivering on analysis and process improvements.

What you will do- Analyze complex issues, generate solutions, and champion initiatives to improve efficiency, including increasing use of new technologies, processes, standardization, etc.- Work with stakeholders across various functions to support continuous improvement in the use of SAP, including identifying enhancement opportunities, implementing efficiency solutions, and refining business processes- Manage the working relationships between the Analysis team and our stakeholders, including other accounting functions, operations teams (e.g. land, joint ventures, and the field), and external bodies (e.g. regulators and auditors)- Utilize data analytics to develop meaningful reports for information and decision-making purposes- Oversee and participate in the preparation of the annual budgeting process- Manage forecast updates, provide accounting support and analysis to the North American business units, prepare regular and ad hoc reporting on financial and operational performance- Engage in diverse projects such as system implementations and upgrades, integrating and developing processes, property acquisitions/dispositions, etc.- Ensure adequate SOX controls are in place, compliance of the controls is adhered to, and training is provided- Continually monitor and adapt to changing technologies impacting our business- Other duties as assigned

What you will bring- 15+ years in oil and gas accounting; with 10+ years supervisory experience- CPA (CA/CMA/CGA) preferred; degree or diploma required- A fundamental understanding of SAP, specifically pertaining to the oil and gas industry is an asset- Enthusiasm, and a demonstrated track record of establishing relationships with peers and stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure a strong level of service is delivered and to achieve business goals- Ability to communicate effectively, confidentially, and professionally- Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment- An inquisitive mind, keen on utilizing technology and embracing change- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI
