    Dexter Construction Company is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently looking for a Walk Behind Saw Operator to join our Bedford Operations. This position will be based out of Bedford, NS but will involve travel to other parts of the province as the need arises.

    Job Summary:

    The Walk Behind Saw Operator will be a member of the concrete division and will be responsible for traveling from job site to job site to operate the walk behind saw.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using power saw
  • Cut joint/grooves in concrete with edging tools to help control cracking
  • Conduct daily maintenance of the equipment being used
  • Be aware of surroundings at all times
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
  • Accurately complete a daily logbook as well as your individual timesheet
  • Ensure safety of fellow employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • Ability to follow a firm work schedule as directed by supervisor
  • Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules, and code of conduct
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks requiring the use of independent judgment and action
  • Must have a solid understanding of how a core cut saw works
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to manage your time effectively
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Must be able to operate a commercial 1 ton truck
  • Working safely is a condition of employment.
  • Flexibility to work weekend and evenings as needed.
  • Working Conditions:

    The Walk Behind Saw Operator has a physically strenuous and demanding job. In this position you will be lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects, requiring the use of PPE, Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, and reflective vest to minimize risk on the worksite. The worksite environment for this position is outside in varying weather conditions.
