As an integral member of the Pharmacy serving inpatients and ambulatory care patients, the
Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in the technical aspects of drug distribution within the professional practice functional area.

In addition to performing the assigned duties competently within his/her teams, he/she is also responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of pharmacy teams on various sites; including working under the direct supervision of the pharmacists; preparing both sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous products; participating in the training of new employees and performing other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification.

A registered Pharmacy technician will be able to expand on their scope of practice to cost-effectively manage additional workflow.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:


  • Completion of an accredited college level Pharmacy Technician Program required and if graduated prior to 2008, Certification with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (CPhT) or completion of Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada (PEBC) Evaluating Exam required.
  • Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada preferred.
  • Active licensure with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) as Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) preferred.
  • Eligibility to register with OCP as RPhT required.

Experience:


  • Two years practical and related experience preferred.
  • Certification (R.Ph.
T.) by the Ontario College of Pharmacists required.

  • Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and sterile intravenous admixture service preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience with automation technology preferred.

Professional Affiliations/Memberships:

  • Membership with a professional pharmacy association is an asset.

Additional Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work under mínimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated dispensing cabinets).
  • Ability to work variable shifts.
  • Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
