Summary:
We're looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Finance team in Burnaby.

What you'll work on:

  • Oversee the financial operations of the Company and its subsidiary corporations, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the team's goals and objectives, and contributions to the monthly accounting cycle, such as approving high value journal entries;
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of a robust system of SOXcompliant Internal Controls over Financial Reporting;
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures governing workflows and internal controls;
  • Oversee the Company's treasury policies and procedures, including cash management, accounts payable review and execution, and monitoring the A/R cycle;
  • Manage relationships with bankers and other vendors;
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to drive efficiency, accuracy, and impact across all aspects of the accounting and financial operations aspects of the Company, including improvements to process involving our tools, such as Netsuite;
  • Administer the Company's Capitalization Table and Stock Option Plan, including ensuring appropriate withholdings from option exercises as applicable;
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos evaluating material transactions recurring and adhoc transactions of the Company;
  • Assist with the review and oversight over tax compliance and timely reporting of all corporate income and sales taxes;
  • Coordinate preparation of external consolidated financial statements and corresponding working papers and schedules;
  • Coordinate preparation of external quarterly reporting to the board and other external stakeholders, including contributing to management's discussion and analysis;
  • Oversee the external audit, including liaising with external auditors, responding to audit queries, preparing audit working papers as appropriate, and ensuring the timely completion of all audit procedures;
  • Contribute operationally to the growth of the Company;
  • Mentor and lead team members and help to grow the Finance team to support organizational needs;
  • Work directly with the Controller, VP Corporate Controller, and CFO to scale the financial operations at the Company;
  • Ad hoc reporting and other duties, as required.

What you bring:

  • 7+ years of experience of full cycle accounting or auditing in a Sarbanes-Oxley controls environment; Exposure to and enjoyment of full cycle accounting process ; Ridiculous attention to little details; The ability to wow people with your concise written and verbal communication skills; A track record of organization; Experience managing and overseeing a small team and crossdepartmental projects; Experience working in an office environment; Experience preparing or reviewing corporate income tax or sales tax returns; Special tricks and techniques for multitasking effectively; Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, specifically US GAAP; Excellent MS office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); and, A CPA designation
