Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Residence Education and reporting to the Assistant Director, Residence Life, the Residence Education and Learning Coordinator (RELC) is a live-in position that works to create a positive living and learning environment for residents at UTM.

In accordance with departmental policies and the academic mission of the University of Toronto, the RELC will supervise a staff team consisting of live-instudent leaders (Program Facilitators and one Community Assistant), to foster and promote Living Learning Communities (LLC) that supports the academic development and personal growth of all residence students living in a LLC.

In consultation with the Supervisor, Residence Education, the RELC will be responsible for the supervision, leadership development and management of a team Program Facilitators.

The RELC will focus on the collaboration with faculty and campus partners, creation of new initiatives, and the implementation of student opportunities and curriculum designed to support a student's academic transition will participating in one of the LLCs.

They will collaborate with the Supervisor, Residence Education in creating the overall vision and strategy for supporting academic development and growth of LLC opportunities in the Student Housing and Residence Life Department.

Working collaboratively with the Residence Life management team, the RELC will develop, implement and assess a comprehensive residence LLC curriculum that specifically addresses the development and growth of undergraduate students as they live and learn in the residence community.

The RELC will be involved in the implementation of current and new LLCS and the creation of facilitation guides.

Hours of Work:
Regular office hours Monday to Friday. Regular evening and weekend work to coordinate operations and support students living in a 24/7 residence environment. Participate in on-call for emergencies.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
  • Liaising with students and faculty to coordinate program activities
  • Liaising with various stakeholders to foster collaboration
  • Generating reports
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Keeping wellinformed on programs, services and facilities
  • Providing basic support and general referralsto individuals in distress
  • Making minor purchases

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum, four years of relevant experience (combination of paraprofessional and professional experience is acceptable) living and/or working in an education setting. Experience in a university setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with emergency situations and crises response.
  • Experience supervising or support student staff teams.
  • Experience planning and facilitating workshops/programs/seminars.
