What can I expect as a Business Analyst, Operations?


The Business Analyst, Operations role provides knowledge in the areas of project management, understanding the relationship between operational and business technology solutions, operational business requirements, process analysis, communication with end users, and the production of communication and training materials.

This position also provides support in the form of project scheduling, scope management, and end user deliverables.

In our world, no day is ever the same, but you can expect a typical day to include some combination of the following:

  • Successfully delivering business-aligned operational solutions for BCFMA by conducting operational business analysis tasks such as workshop planning and facilitation, operations requirements gathering and documentation, organizing and conducting project delivery.
  • Conducting project management tasks including scoping and planning, stakeholder communication and expectation management, organizational change management, and controlling risks/issues.
  • Collaborating with the policy and procedures team, operations users and business analyst team members at every stage of a project's life cycle providing feedback improvement suggestions, tracking project progress, and supporting change management for the Agency.
  • Participating as a relationship manager to ensure effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organizing and facilitating end user training plans and preparing training materials.
  • Conducting continuous research and committing to ongoing learning to remain current with new technologies and best practices.
  • Creating and updating forms and letters in support of change toward continuous improvement.

Education and experience will you need to be successful:

  • Two year college diploma or equivalent post-secondary education credits. An equivalent combination of education and experience in place of formal education credential will be considered.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and quality assurance principles.
  • Ability to engage users to elicit, document and present user requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creativity, critical thinking, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to model operational business problems and solutions with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment or work independently while taking ownership of tasks with mínimal supervision.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Indepth experience in BCFMA operations.
***Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position but at a lower classification. If hired, the successful applicant would be under-implemented at a Band 1 classification (salary range $44,408 to $$69,388 per year) with an employee development plan in place until the qualifications for Business Analyst, Operations are fully met.
