Day Camp Camper Care Leads play an integral role in ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate in a camp experience.

They will be responsible for directly supporting the Accessibility and Inclusion Counsellors and the any Camp Counsellor that require support when working with campers that are in the Accessibility and Inclusion program and/or experiencing a challenge at camp.


In this role, you will:


  • Assist Camp Directors in supervision of camp counsellors to ensure they are fulfilling their roles
  • Provide leadership to the camp staff team by monitoring, coaching and mentoring staff as well as providing ongoing feedback, and performance appraisals to direct reports
  • Support campers that are registered in the Accessibility and Inclusion program and/or that are having a challenging time at camp through daily check ins, participating with group, providing resources and strategies to counsellors
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and childcare in regards to camper's experience and support staff with parent meetings
  • Assist in providing training for the day camp accessibility and inclusion staff and behavior management for all staff
  • Ensure our camp programs are accessible to all campers by working with the Camper Care Coordinator and Camp Director to ensure adaptive program materials are purchased and adequately stocked throughout the summer to support our campers
  • Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; arriving on time, and actively participating and contributing to the development of all camp staff
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning, safety and maintenance to camp sites
  • Act as a positive role model for the campers and fellow staff through embodying the YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp conditions of employment/guidelines and the Ontario Camping Association standards

You bring:


  • Postsecondary education (or currently enrolled in) _(Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker, Ontario Certified Teacher, Resource Teacher, Social Worker, Developmental Support, Educational Assistant, Recreation and Leisure and/or training in the fields of psychology and experience working with children with differing abilities and diagnosis preferred) _
  • Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certificate valid until the last day of contract
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a childoriented program with a focus on children with disability or additional needs
  • Experience with YMCA Day Camps an asset
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and nonvisible dimensions of diversity
