    About the Opportunity

    Reporting to the Manager, the Radiochemistry Laboratory Technologist is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day production and quality control of radioactive isotopes used in positron emitting tomography PET imaging (E.g. 18F-FDG). While performing all tasks they are responsible for adhering to and completing all documents corresponding to department policies and procedures, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and Health Canada regulations. In addition to the routine production of established PET radiopharmaceuticals the Radiochemistry Laboratory Technologist is responsible for assisting with the development, radiolabeling, implementation and validation of new radiotracers for application in PET.

    The Technologist is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment related to production and quality control this includes but is not limited to Gas Chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, thin layer chromatography scanner, dose calibrator, well counter and radiation detectors. They are also responsible for ensuring supplies are ordered, received, and released according to good manufacturing practices. Additionally they are responsible for the stocking of chemicals and solutions used in production and quality control. Operation of the cyclotron and assistance with its maintenance are included in the job responsibilities. The Technologist is also responsible for assisting with the environmental program of the facility including; performing settle and contact plate, viable and non-viable air sampling as well as monitoring and trending results.

    The Radiochemistry Laboratory Technologist must have excellent laboratory skills in chemistry or other related fields. They must have an understanding of computer-controlled equipment. Due to the nature of the work, involving short half-life isotopes, they must be able to work in a challenging environment (Ionizing radiation and chemicals) and excellent time management skills. They need to have the ability to follow detailed policies and procedures. The position requires a high degree of teamwork.

    The candidate may be required to work outside the cyclotron to support the Diagnostic Imaging Department (E.g. Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging)

    About You

    We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

    • Graduate of Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry or Health Sciences
    • 1 year recent related experience with safe handling of open radiation sources or equivalent required
    • Recent experience in radiochemistry or radiopharmacy an asset
    • Ability to work effectively in a high stress environment (short half live of product requires the ability to work quickly to ensure timely and safe release of product for patient use)
    • High level of teamwork and organizational skills required
    • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

    Hours

    • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
    • Shift work required, evenings, nights, and weekends

    Compensation and Incentives

    $ $41.76 hourly
