An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand daily practice operations and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share common features: a supportive environment, commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners. Berwick Animal Hospital, located in Berwick, NS, is one such facility.
Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. Veterinary students in their fourth or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
