Volunteer Programs Specialist
The Mississauga Food Bank's (TMFB) vision is
a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. We relieve hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy food for people in need.
Job Purpose
- Coordinating all areas of the volunteer cycle including recruitment, screening, orientation, recognition/stewardship, and evaluation for all volunteers.
- Ensuring that TMFB is always staffed with reliable volunteers and that they are utilized for the fulfilment of our mission
- Matching volunteers to the right volunteer position based on program needs and skill set required for the role.
- Providing training and support to all staff leading volunteers
- Implementing a culture of awareness, support, and advocacy

- Fair benefits and compensation include:
- Starting salary of $55,000
- $62,000. Salaries are compared to the market every 2 years, annual cost-of-living increases, plus the opportunity for performance-based increases

- Develop, evaluate and utilize fair, consistent and comprehensive, recruitment, interview, screening and selection processes and practices aligned with The Mississauga Food Bank's (TMFB) Human Resource policies and practices.
- Recruit, onboard and assign volunteers for projects, events, campaigns, fundraising, office work, unpaid internships and other initiatives, as required.
- Build positive relationships with volunteers, staff, community groups and a variety of partners and stakeholders to effectively meet both department and TMFB's short and longterm objectives.
- Pursue potential volunteer recruitment opportunities within the community, to grow a diverse portfolio of community programs & engagement
- Create and maintain a volunteer resourcing plan for all TMFB programs requiring volunteer support
- Proactively liaise with the Marketing & Communication team to ensure the TMFB website reflects current volunteer needs.
- Maintain efficient and effective processes to
- Provide a comprehensive orientation process for new volunteers that includes:
- information about TMFB and its impact
- Remain committed to continuous learning and professional development especially within the voluntary field and others as appropriate
- Identify highprofile volunteers and make connections with the development team
- Provide a communication strategy for volunteer information and updates
- Develop marketing initiatives for the volunteer department for recruiting and recognition
- Utilize appropriate electronic database system to support TMFB's volunteer programs;
- Oversee the volunteer scheduling system to ensure it is userfriendly and maximize its potential, and provide recommendations for efficiencies.
- Remain committed to continuous learning and professional development especially within the voluntary field and others as appropriate
- Provide volunteer expertise and support to leads to respond to support needs
- Communicate frequently with volunteer leads to ensure they are satisfied and have adequate support
- Provide support, direction, professional development, and evaluation to staff leading volunteers and work closely with all programs and leads to ensure that
- volunteers enjoy a positive experience
- Contribute to a positive working relationship with the other members of the People and Culture team in support of the team's goals and objectives
- Ensure that volunteers are scheduled for programs aligned with their skills and experience.
- Effectively use and embrace technologies that will support and enhance department functioning to meet goals and objectives
- Coordinate volunteer initiatives such as volunteer appreciation and the annual survey.
- Identify highprofile volunteers and make connections with the development team
