FASD: The Prevention Conversation: A Shared Responsibility

ADOLESCENT PREVENTION CONVERSATION FACILITATOR

PART-TIME CONTRACT POSITION

The Adolescent Prevention Facilitator (APF), hired by the South East Alberta FASD Network will increase awareness and prevention of FASD in Alberta, through participation in the FASD-The Prevention Conversation: A shared Responsibility Project.

Through various presentations, workshops, training opportunities, conversations and the use of social media engaging health and social service providers, educators, and community individuals, the APF will increase FASD awareness and prevention across the region within the adolescent population, specifically those 12-17 years old.

Requirements

  • A degree or diploma in the field of Health, Education, Human and/or Social Services (Child and Youth Care) or related field is required
  • A minimum of 2 years related employment experience, e.g. high risk populations, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder or community development
  • Alberta Class 5 License and a reliable vehicle

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of FASD
  • Knowledge of Community Development and ability to enhance community capacity
  • Ability to promote FASD to health and social service agencies, women of child bearing age and their partners, and community groups in a creative manner
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Public Speaking ability
  • Ability to facilitate change in attitudes and beliefs
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, result oriented, good time management, strong organizational, problem solving and advocacy skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs / computer literate / and be social media savvy.
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and community
  • Familiarity working with high risk populations and an understanding of Aboriginal and other cultures, history and current issues
