Job Summary:

This position facilitates group-based employment, career and life skills training to ITP and Youth Lead project participants.

This position is responsible for providing placement support to Internationally Trained Professionals (mentees), newcomer youth (mentees) and mentors within the social services sector by developing and monitoring placement opportunities.


Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Team Supervisor who reports to the Director of Employment Services.


Job Specific Responsibilities:


  • Manages mentor caseloads.
  • Performs assessments for mentors and determines their needs.
  • Provides opportunities for employers and mentees to connect through job fairs, meet and greets and other avenues.
  • Develops, reviews, and monitors unpaid placement opportunities for ITPs and newcomer youth.
  • Matches mentee skills to mentor needs.
  • Ensures placement mentors can provide safe and appropriate placement opportunities.
  • Ensures placement mentors comply with program requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships/partnerships with mentors and relevant agencies that support client needs.
  • Assist program participants to build support networks.
  • Provides direct oneonone support to mentees in a clientcentered manner.
  • Supports mentees in their job search.
  • Provides assistance with intake/assessment processes.
  • Monitors mentee attendance and reports as required.
  • Works in consultation with the Employment Counsellor to identify and provide financial supports around childcare and transportation.
  • Develops educational programming or workshops for and/or in consultation with mentees relevant to their labour market integration challenges.
  • Organizes and facilitates workshops using a variety of platforms focused on employment, career, and life skills.
  • Provides practical support, guidance and resources to project participants as needed.
  • Develops specific resources to support participant learning.
  • Collects client information and program data as relevant to the position, contributes to program reporting.
  • Contributes, collects, and acts on information using established communication systems.
  • Prepares recommendations with reports and research for program improvements as needed.
  • Works as a member of the Centre team and of the project team.
  • Participates in team and staff meetings and other Centre committees and activities as required.

  • Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre.
  • Contributing to the Centre's practices of hiring, orienting, and training of staff.
  • Contributing to the Centre's efforts to secure and maximize resources for current and new programs, services, and activities.
  • Participating in the Centre's efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development.
  • Working in a manner that supports the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Position Requirements
Education

  • Relevant college or university degree, preferably in social science
Professional Experience


3-5 years experience in the following areas:

  • Working with individuals with newcomers, refugees, Internationally Trained Professionals, or
