Position Summary
The Nephrology program provides comprehensive care to patients with kidney disease.

The chiropodist, by participating in client-centered care provided by the various nephrology clinics and dialysis units, and through education and awareness promotes foot health.

As an integral member of the inter-professional team, the chiropodist provides assessment of the foot and the treatment and prevention of diseases, disorders or dysfunctions of the foot by therapeutic, palliative and routine foot care.

(Currently anyone requiring orthotic devices needs referral to an external clinic).

Mobile chiropody services are available to patients during hemodialysis, in the in-centre, home hemodialysis and dialysis start units.


Conventional clinic services are provided in the Chiropodist's clinic room for other out-patients of the Nephrology program, including Multi Care Kidney Clinic, Renal Specialty clinics, dialysis satellite patients and any nephrology patient requiring more invasive procedures not possible during a mobile visit.


Qualifications

  • At minimum, a completion of postgraduate Chiropody program, or recognized equivalent
  • Current registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario required
  • Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.)
  • Two (2) years related experience
  • Working with diverse multicultural, socially and economically stratified populations
  • Community experience an asset
  • Experience working with medically compromised clients (e.g. Diabetes, CVD, etc.); knowledge and experience in wound care, biomechanics, and diabetic foot.
  • Ability to work independently and interdependently as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and maintain departmental linkages
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Customer service oriented with the ability to use tact, judgment and diplomacy when dealing with patient needs
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation required
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.)
  • Fine motor dexterity
