DESIRED CONTRACT TERM: 26 Weeks
START DATE: January 8, 2024
END DATE:Initial term approved to the Province of Ontario's current fiscal year end, March 31, 2024. Additional weeks, ending July 5, 2024 is pending the approval of Ottawa Festivals' fiscal year JCP program agreement.


WORK LOCATION:
Hybrid: Own home and office


JOB SUMMARY:
This position is funded in part through Ontario's Job Creation Partnerships(JCP, see more details below).

Reporting to and working directly under the supervision of the Director - Operations | Marketing | Sponsorship | Artistic Programming.

The Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of recruitment, orientation, communication, supervision, and recognition of festival volunteers for the Ice Dragon Boat Festival and the summer Dragon Boat Festival.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Work closely with event staff and management to organize volunteer components before and during Festival events.
  • Recruit new and returning volunteers to fill roles leading up to, during, and after Festival events.
  • Research and attend local volunteer recruitment events.
  • Manage online volunteer registration system.
  • Correspond with registered or potential volunteers and address all related inquiries.
  • Coordinate with Operations Team and Team Services Team to assess volunteer needs for each area of Festival events.
  • Ensure all volunteers have received their schedule, volunteer manual, and completed all required waivers and/or police reference checks.
  • Supervise and manage all aspects associated with Volunteer Services leading up to and during Festival events.
  • Organize and facilitate volunteer orientation held prior to all Festival events.
  • Liaise with Board of Directors and other event staff as necessary; other related duties as required by event staff team.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Postsecondary education in a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, recent experience using MS Office programs, and strong written and verbal skills are required.
  • Previous event and volunteer coordination experience would be an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, including conversing by phone and in person.
  • Ability to work under pressure and on various projects simultaneously and autonomously.
  • Bilingual in French and English would be considered an asset.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Eligible to participate in Ontario's Job Creation Partnership (JCP) employment program by meeting the following criteria:

  • An unemployed job seeker or those employed less than 20 hours per week (current students with a full-time status are not eligible to be considered, part-time students may apply)
  • A resident, living in Ontario
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

Have one, or both, of the following criteria:
a. Previously established an Employment Insurance (EI) benefit claim (regular benefits within the last three years or maternity/parental within the last five years), and/or

b.

Contributed to EI premiums through payroll deductions for any five years out of the last ten years, while also earning a gross income exceeding $2000 in each calendar year.


Remuneration:

$662 (gross) per week provided by the Province of Ontario ($ based on 32 hours per week).


Salary:
$20.69 per hour


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
