Smithers locations, within the Interior of British Columbia.

WHAT YOU WILL DO


As an integral part of the forest development planning team, the Project Forester will be responsible for providing expertise within project teams, spanning small cutting permit-based projects to large integrated multi-phase development or woodlands management programs.

Typical duties include providing leadership in the implementation of appraisal, stewardship and silviculture services.


The Project Forester will support the completion of cruise compilations and interior timber appraisals and will manage and ensure compliance and consistency with stewardship requirements for forest development in B.C.

as driven by FRPA and relevant Forest Stewardship Plans. This may include the coordination of assessments, creation of Site Plans, and completion of required referrals.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A safety conscious attitude;
  • Postsecondary education in a relevant discipline;
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an RPF with the ABCFP;
  • Significant experience in operational timber development, including field engineering, crew supervision, timber cruising, field assessments, etc.;
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience and clear and comprehensive understanding of working with the B.C. Interior Appraisal system;
  • An understanding of all aspects of forest management, not limited to forest ecology, pathology, engineering, silviculture, timber valuation, timber harvesting and fire management;
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in a range of forestry related software, GIS and Microsoft Office Suite; and
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record.

  • Professional with a friendly and courteous manner, being service and team oriented;
  • Able to work both independently under limited direct supervision as well as in a project team environment;
  • Flexible with strong organizational and time management skills to with ability to work under pressure to meet targets; and
  • Able to work with excellent attention to detail with work accuracy and quality.
