    At Sinai Health, we care, create possibilities and offer hope. We are looking for an experienced Nurse Practitioner to support our NICU at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

    Position Summary:

    The Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist utilizes and demonstrates a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for newborn and paediatric clients. This may involve taking a comprehensive obstetric/neonatal and general health history; ordering and interpreting diagnostic investigations and laboratory tests; determining a treatment plan in consultation with the physician, the health care team and with the family and evaluating the outcomes of the plan and interventions taken. The successful incumbent will develop, implement and evaluate initiatives that improve patient care quality in the NICU and in the Women's and Infants Health Program, in accordance with the principles of patient and family integrated care, the strategic goals of the program, and the goals of the organization as a whole. This includes a leadership role in quality assurance, infection control, patient safety and patient satisfaction, as well as administrative duties within the Women's and Infants Health Program and the Hospital.

    Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the establishment of goals and objectives for the program consistent with the provision of high-quality care.
  • Participates in the programmatic development of the clinical area and participates and provides leadership in Nursing practice, program development and evaluation. Aids in the development and maintenance of standards of clinical practice through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff, excellence in clinical practice and implementation and utilization of research.
  • Interprets and fosters the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing and Department of Paediatrics.
  • Develops partnerships within MSH and within the community at large, including identification of community resources, multi-cultural services, and adult and paediatric services to enhance continuity of care for clients.
  • Performs and participates in research activities and implements and advances changes in evidence-based practice.
  • Delivers, coordinates and participates in education and professional development activities/programs involving both staff and clients.
  • Performs activities to further develop and strengthen the profession including the supervision of advanced nursing students.
  • Acts as a resource and serves as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community.
  • Job Requirements
  • QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Completion of a Master's Degree program in nursing and a Nurse Practitioner Certificate or equivalent required
  • Current registration (Extended Class) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Proven expertise in the implementation of the Nurse Practitioner role strongly recommended
  • NCC Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is preferred
  • Membership in RNAO and other organizations relevant to the role
  • Paediatric care with NICU staff nursing experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher and administration/leadership, is an asset
  • Experience precepting and evaluating undergraduate and post-graduate nursing students, as well as clinical fellows is preferred
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to sensitively communicate with patients/families in vulnerable situations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization, time management, program planning and evaluation skills
  • Demonstrated decision making, problem recognition/solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven commitment to collaborative practice and ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to utilize information technology
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
