The Manager leads staff and students to enhance intercultural understanding, diversity, and equity on campus.

These activities include but are not limited to:
(1) Events throughout the student life cycle (orientation, graduation, award ceremonies etc.); (2) International Days; (3) Accommodation management, (Homestay, on campus and off campus housing); (4) the Leisure Exploration and Activity Program (LEAP); (5) Retention and transition programs for continuing international students and transfer students; (6) Intercultural Ambassadors; (7) Information Workshops. The Manager supports the Associate Director in identifying and developing program priorities, allocating and reconciling a budget more than $2 million, facilitating the control of inventory and equipment, managing staff, contractors, and volunteers, and overseeing the safe and responsible implementation of all activities and programs.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads a team of International Student and Immigration Advisors who support international undergraduate and graduate students, exchange students, and visiting students.
  • Provides direction to the ISA team in its delivery, practice and interpretation of immigration, related government policies, travel to Canada and settlement resources.
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates the execution of orientation programs, student retention initiatives, information workshops, and programs that encourage international students to participate in campus and community life.
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates the execution of the Leisure Exploration Activity Program, both on and off campus, with special emphasis on safety and risk management. Ensures that contractors, external service providers, and participants adhere to safety protocols.
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates a sustainable accommodation plan for international student housing, both on and off campus.
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates the execution of activities designed to promote global engagement, including TRU World's annual International Days event. Leads and engages staff and students to enhance intercultural understanding, diversity, and equity on campus.
  • Develops, plans, and manages a comprehensive housing program for students, including the Homestay Program.
  • Collaborates with on campus housing to ensure a smooth transition for students.
  • In collaboration with TRU's Intercultural Coordinator develops, manages, and evaluates intercultural programming designed to foster intercultural competency among students, including the Intercultural Ambassador program.
  • Provides strategic advice to the Associate Director and the Managing Director in the development and implementation of best practices related to student services, event planning, and student programs delivery.
  • Forecasts, maintains, and reconciles annual and monthly budget planning cycles. Allocates resources as per TRU's policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Manages staff, including LEAP and Orientation leaders, coop students, workstudy students and event volunteers. Identifies additional staffing needs to meet peak demands.
  • Manages contractors, procurement, and business relationships with external suppliers. Ensures that all contractual obligations and deliverables are met in a cost effective and timely manner. Produces request for proposals.
  • Fosters collaboration and facilitates coordination with faculty and relevant TRU Divisions, such as the Faculty of Student Development (Career Services, Peer Mentors, Aboriginal Education, Advising, Assessment Centre, Writing Centre, Wellness Centre), Research and Graduate Studies, Recreation, Sustainability, Ancillary Services, and Student Housing to enhance the international student experience.
  • Develops and evaluates a communications strategy that encompasses "just in time" communication to students, and in collaboration with TRU World's Marketing and Recruitment team promotes TRU World events, activities, and programs. Periodically reviews the TRU and TRU World website and social media to maintain, update, and refresh content and related links.
  • Provides assistance with, and as required, leads TRU World events and activities such as staff events, familiarization tours and visiting delegations.
  • Participates in committees, working groups and campuswide initiatives.
  • Manages integration of new technology and best practices for the ISA team.
  • Acts as custodian for minor international students.
