About the opportunity -Established in 1818, Dalhousie is a leading research-intensive university offering more than 180 degree programs in 11 faculties. The Marine Affairs Program offers a Master of Marine Management (MMM) degree, a sixteen-month graduate program that provides a stimulating, cross-cultural learning environment to advance the sustainable use of the world's coastal and marine environments.
Teaching requirements of the position include, but not limited to the following:

  • Develop and deliver MARA 5010 (Contemporary Issues in Ocean and Coastal Management Part I) in the Fall term and MARA 5011 (Contemporary Issues in Ocean and Coastal Management Part II) in the Winter term;
  • Develop and deliver MARA 5009 (Coastal Zone Management) in the Fall term;
  • Develop and deliver a module for OCEAN 4401 (Marine Management Part I) in the Fall term and/or for OCEAN 4402 (Marine Management Part II) in the Winter term.
Prepare course syllabus in accordance to the course descriptions;

  • Prepare and deliver lectures as per the course syllabus;
  • Maintain the Brightspace and other courserelated resources as per the university requirements;
  • Grade course assignments and submit final grades, along with appropriate and fair feedback and evaluations of assignments to the students in a timely manner.
Advise and mentor Master of Marine Management students through the duration of their program;

  • Serve as an academic supervisor for MMM students on their graduate research projects;
  • Support MMM orientation activities and seminar series;
  • Serve on various MAP and Dalhousie committees.
Research expectations of the position include;

  • Develop and conduct research projects on ocean governance issues in Atlantic Canada;
  • Publish their work in academic journals and disseminate their findings to the public via various channels (e.g. press release, podcast, public lecture and seminars);
  • Support graduate student research (both via MMM or through Dalhousie's Interdisciplinary PhD program) related to their own research projects;
