What will you do?


Reporting directly to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of human resources activities including recruitment and selection, managing data in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), employee relations, organization development, employee benefits, compensation and occupational health and safety support along with Human Resources projects as assigned.

The Human Resources Specialist must act and operate in an independent fashion and take initiative to ensure that matters are addressed in an efficient and professional manner in order to assist employees and support organizational goals.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Acts as a key staff resource to the Manager, Human Resources.
  • Ensures compliance with employment standards and legislation; research and identify best practices as it pertains to HCCSS.
  • Organizes, administers, coordinates and participates in the full cycle recruitment process including orientation and onboarding activities.
  • In consultation with the Manager, Human Resources develops legal documents such as employment agreements, secondment agreements and separation packages.
What must you have?

  • Minimum three (3) years previous experience in a human resources position;Experience in full cycle recruitment process from job posting to hire;
  • Experience with preparation of reports and statistical computations;
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Human Resources Information System;
  • Demonstrated experience in Payroll/Benefits/Compensation Administration;
  • Demonstrated experience in Performance Management Administration;
  • Knowledge of human resources relevant legislation and employment standards/employment law;
  • Familiar with the Government of Ontario processes and procedures;
  • Familiar with collective agreements;
  • Strong understanding and commitment to quality service and best practice;
  • Ability to analyze information, problemsolve and make good decisions;
  • Accountable for own actions and decisions, making decisions within the scope of the position and referring issues/problems/events to the Manager, Patient Services and Manager, Human Resources as required;
  • Solid documentation skills (clear, thorough, accurate and timely);
  • Selfdirected with the ability to organize, prioritize and multitask;
  • Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change;
  • Detailoriented;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Courteous and respectful in all interactions;
  • Ability to establish and maintain a wide range of contacts with professionals and organizations within the community;
  • Solid effective listening and facilitation skills;
  • Ability to maintain confidential information;
  • Empathy to sensitive issues.
What would give you the edge?

  • Possession of or progression toward a certification with the Human Resources Professional Association (CHRP or CHRL);
  • Experience in a unionized environment in a healthcare or public sector;
  • Strong experience managing data in a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) with the ability to generate reports as required;
  • Strong knowledge of HCCSS priorities, policies, practices and service standards;
  • Ability to speak French or another second language.
