CME Port Alberni Division is currently looking to hire for current and future projects. Due to recently awarded contracts, we are looking to fill numerous positions. (Preferably with shipyard experience) So come work, live, and play in one of the most beautiful places on earth

We are currently hiring the position of shipyard labourer/hole-watch for our shipyard providing a variety of services in the shipbuilding and repair industry which include but are not limited to:

  • Materials delivery.
  • Set up for specified work on a vessel.
  • Prepare vessel surfaces.
  • Perform fire watch and hole watch duties.
  • Assist in docking and undocking vessels.
  • Assist other shipyard/shop workers and trades as required.
  • May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Perform basic and physical tasks such as transporting, loading/unloading material, tools and equipment on and off trucks and vessels.
  • Assist welders preparing areas for hot work, move welding equipment, welding lines and perform tasks such as lagging and painting as directed, as well as other trades as necessary.
  • Perform hole and fire watch duties ensuring the safety of tradespeople working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to use power tools and basic hand tools to complete tasks assigned.

Knowledge and Ability:


  • Willingness to listen, follow instructions and the ability to work with and help fellow employees.
  • Must be organized and have good housekeeping habits.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, some heavy lifting might be required.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Determines the techniques to use and selects the proper materials.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, additional licenses/certificates including
    "confined space entry" considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experiencepreference.
  • Training and experience usually through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training are desirable.
  • Demonstrate a history of successful employment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Shipyard experience considered an asset

Work Environment/Physical Abilities:


  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders, or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships).
  • Able to carry or move objects up to 50 pounds.
