ANALYST - METALS SECTION

This is a Contract position to November 29, 2024

As an
ANALYST 1, your responsibilities
are**:
Performs chemical analysis using a variety of laboratory instrumentation. Prepares samples for more complex analytical testing procedures.

The analyst will be part of a team who will be responsible to perform various sample prep procedures for trace metal analysis including instrument sample dilutions, dissolved waters and digestion of aqueous samples.

These procedures are detailed in various Standard Operating Procedures. Complete documentation of digestion, reagent, maintenance and verification logs is also a key responsibility.


Key Accountability/Responsibilities:


  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure raw data is appropriately labelled.
  • Ensure analytical records and all required logs are properly completed, labelled and filed to ensure traceability.
  • General housekeeping of laboratory and workstations.
  • Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
  • Operation of mechanical equipment (ie. Wiley Mill, Pulveriser, Chipmunk, Ball mill) for sample size reduction (prep crush methods).
  • Prepare samples, subsamples and reagents for trace metal analysis. Ensure samples, digests, extracts and standard solutions are properly labelled and stored in the appropriate location.
  • Perform simple analysis, including operation of balances and meters.
  • Maintain up to date maintenance records for instrumentation.
  • Meet quality and turnaround time specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analysed within holding time requirements.
  • Provide supervisor with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
  • Maintain control charts as per QA manual requirements, monitor for failure to meet tolerances and consult with Supervisor regarding remedial action.
  • Standard laboratory environment
  • Availability for shift work, OT and weekend work required
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Technical diploma required, B.Sc. preferred
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures and instrumental techniques
