SD Avionics is a division of Satcom Direct located in Kanata, the high-tech hub of Ottawa, Ontario. Our second largest site globally, this location manufactures avionics hardware, cabin routers, and the SD Plane Simple Antenna System.

JOB SUMMARY:


Satcom Direct is looking for a Hardware Qualification Test Engineer to be responsible for successfully executing the Hardware Qualification testing to RTCA DO-160 standard of commercial avionics products.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Test Planning & Execution for Hardware Qualification to the RTCA DO160 standard.
  • Working with SMEs from the engineering design team to understand functional test requirements.
  • Quoting, Scheduling and Managing relationship with external test labs to ensure test execution.
  • Conduct Hardware Qualification Test Readiness
  • Hardware Qualification Test Data Review and Reporting
  • Assist in failure resolution and corrective action.
  • Participate in the design and procurement of test harnesses and functional test equipment.
  • Support Engineering Change Impact Analysis to determine the appropriate amount of Qualification testing required due to system redesign due to component obsolescence.


To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner and should demonstrate all competencies listed above.

All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of SD operating standards, established safety rules, and adhere to company attendance guidelines.


GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Experience with RF test equipment would be an asset.
  • Experience with Computer networking would be an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Working knowledge of DO160 or MIL-STDs would be an asset.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence would be an asset.
  • Experience in EMI, Environmental or Vibration testing at the LRU level within the Military or Aviation industries. Or other similar test experience
  • Ability and willingness to effectively communicate progress and status of ongoing Qualification test being conducted at external test facilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


  • 5+ years of test engineering experience and,
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Systems Engineering or Computer Science
  • Or a 3year college diploma in Electronic or Electrical Engineering Technology and an additional 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Or significant experience in the aviation industry or other similar industry

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs).

Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and use standard office equipment such as computer, printer, phone and cell phone.

In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop in order to open/close cabinets, reach for files or other standard office type objects.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due to others talking or laughing loudly, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control.

An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their particular duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company/department needs, project requirements or customer demands.
