Position Summary:


Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Community Mental Health, the Masters prepared school based clinician will work as part of an community mental health and addictions interdisciplinary team and within the CSAP family of schools as part of the SchoolsPlus program to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services to children/youth, families and staff.

The SchoolsPlus Clinician will practice the principles and philosophy of CAPA (Choice and Partnership Approach) in all areas of position responsibility.

With a focus on providing early identification and intervention for mental health and addictions issues, the clinician will provide evidence based individual and family therapy as well as group interventions, referrals to the Mental Health and Addictions Services, a bridge to support reintegration to school following treatment and Mental Health/Addictions education and consultation to school staff.

The clinician will integrate prevention and health promotion into clinical practice, provide input into programming and participate in evaluation research.

Services will be provided throughout the year, including summer vacation and other school holidays, based on the identified needs of the client population, the school system and the IWK MHA Program.


Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm. Some evening work and flexibility required depending on caseload.


Qualifications:


  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers required.
  • Fluency in both English and French, and must be able to read and write both languages required.
  • Minimum two (2) years post masters clinical experience working in child and adolescent mental health services required.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification required (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employ) is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the last 12 month required (or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge certificate required).
  • A demonstrated commitment to familycentred care required.
  • Demonstrated experience in individual/family therapy required.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of evidence based group interventions required.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
