Automation Technician
Valbruna ASW Inc.

Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, the Automation Technician's
duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Troubleshoots and maintains existing critical process control systems utilizing PLCs, HMIs and other intelligent electronic devices.
  • Maintains, develops and improves control concepts, program design and instrumentation/operator interfaces.
  • Designs, develops and implements upgrades/enhancements to existing process control systems.
  • Understands the processes and technology involved in melting, refining, casting and pouring steel and applies the appropriate solutions to maximize operational efficiencies.
  • Works effectively with both hourly trades and production workers as well as with management.
  • Oncall response to highpriority issues is expected and occasional afterhours commissioning of new code systems may be required.
  • Experienced in PLC and HMI programming including Allen Bradley, ControlLogix /RS Logix, Siemens, Wonderware and Factory Talk.
  • Electrician license or PLC certification would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and understand electrical schematic diagrams, blueprints and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, Access, PCS/SCADA as well as experience with computerassisted design (AutoCAD).
  • Experience with communication protocols (e.g. Remote I/O, Modbus over TCP/IP is required as well as basic knowledge of computer networking, Ethernet connections, TCP/IP protocol).
  • General knowledge of VFD drives and motors.
  • Strong communication skills and a proven ability to problemsolve under pressure.
  • Must have a strong willingness to work in a fastpaced, lean environment where adaptability, innovation and hard work are valued above all else.
  • Experience developing and configuring PCbased relational databases, SQL data transfer and database reporting tools in MS Access would be considered an asset.
