APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF
COMMUNITY INTERPRETER (On Call)


At this time, the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) is seeking dedicated and proficient Community Interpreters to facilitate effective communication between school staff, students, parents, and the community.

This position plays a vital role in ensuring that linguistic and cultural barriers do not hinder the educational experience of our students and parents.

An on-call list will be created for the following languages:

Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin), Spanish, Ukrainian, Tagalog, French, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian,Tamil, Vietnamese, Japanese, Amharic, Czeck, Slovak, Albanian, Assyrian, Malayalam, Tigrinya, Armenian

QUALIFICATIONS:

College or University degree. A certificate in interpretation, linguistics, or a related field is preferred

Proficiency in English

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge of educational and community terminology and school practices is required

Previous interpreting experience is required

Cultural competency and the ability to adapt to diverse environments


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide interpretation services during parent-teacher meetings, school events, and other relevant activities

Interpret verbal and written communication between school staff, students, and parents

Promote cross-cultural understanding and sensitivity

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Perform other duties as assigned or required
