Cad Railway has other facilities in Calgary, Lethbridge (under Caltrax banner) and has recently been selected by the ONxpress Transportation Partners association to provide all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet of approximately 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives.

Cad Railway Fleet Services' delivery team will operate and maintain Metrolinx's rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke and Whitby, as well as in multiple overnight along with mid-day light servicing facilities located across the Metrolinx train service area.


Summary of the role:


The Health Safety and Environment Coordinator will be responsible for providing Health, Safety and Environment expertise and support these functions within the Metrolinx Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.

This individual will report to the Manager HSE & Regulatory Compliance and partner with the business to provide support across the project to identify, monitor and eliminate/manage all Health & safety, or environmental risks.


Responsibilities:


  • Promote a safe work environment, superior customer service and equal opportunity
  • Perform activities aligned with HSE and Regulatory compliance, to ensure the production employees, subcontractors, temporary resources and third parties perform their work in a safe manner and are compliant at all times
  • Support site management to achieve HSE results
  • Provide feedback on short or long term plans for HSE
  • Observe, monitor and ensure that all government regulatory requirements are met
  • Perform accident investigations and review the incident action plan for safety implications while ensuring that all accidents/incidents are first prevented and enforce corrective measures for occurrences
  • Perform risk assessments and implement necessary control measures to mitigate risk
  • Perform routine safety audits and observations of facilities, equipment and maintenance tasks and ensure findings are investigated, resolved, and closed
  • Partner with human resources to support employee and WSIB related workplace claims
  • Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relating to HSE requirements for maintenance and operations and to measure success
  • Evaluate and monitor health & safety and environment hazards & recommend strategies and mitigate solutions to control risks in the workplace
  • Collaborate with HR to identify the appropriate corrective actions regarding violations and noncompliances to address and improve human behaviour
  • Communicate and develop a plan for HSE capabilities for key employees
  • Advise on emerging or potential issues to senior management in a timely manner
  • Provide any requested operation report and/or analysis to the senior management team
  • Collaborate with the union and frontline employees, propose compulsory HSE guidelines, while providing an environment where employees feel at ease to report issues
  • Maintain strong rapport with maintenance employees and supervisors/managers

Basic Qualifications:


  • University degree or College Diploma in Health Safety and Environment (or related fields)
  • 3 to 5 years in a manufacturing Health & Safety position
  • Experience working with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety legislation & requirements
  • Background in establishing and executing a wide scope of business strategies for company products and services
  • Experience in dealing and being accountable for results and overall performance to the business
  • Able to track and manage multiple safety KPIs
  • Excellent communication skills and impeccable ethics
  • Strong problem solving, project management and planning/organizing skills
  • Strong knowledge of the MS Office suite and above all, an indepth knowledge of Excel

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Heavy industry / Rail Transit or Passenger rail maintenance background
  • Previous experience in a role that had an Environmental component
  • Experience working in a Unionized environment
  • WSIB exposure / experience.

Pay:
$65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
