Summary of Duties

As a member of the inter-professional team providing patient-focused care, the Technical Assistant will work closely with Registered Nurses, Technologists, and other health care professionals to support dialysis patient care.

The Technical Assistant will provide assistance with hemodialysis equipment, set-up, take-down, cleaning, and disinfection.

The Technical Assistant will use aseptic technique and adhere to the quality standards for Infection Prevention and Control and CSA safety standards.

In addition, the Technical Assistant will assume responsibility for inventory management and stocking of all dialysis supplies. The Technical Assistant will also play an active role in Nephrology Program quality improvement initiatives and inter-professional committees.

Qualifications/Skills

Minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education of Ontario (required)
Completion of a Dialysis Technical Assistant Program considered an asset
Recent experience working as a Technical Assistant in a hemodialysis unit required
Computer literacy in a windows operating system
Excellent verbal/written communication skills, conflict resolution skills, time management skills and mechanical/technical aptitude
Willingness to show initiative and adapt to change
Knowledge of and ability to effectively use organizational resources
Ability to handle heavy equipment and supplies
Commitment to the values and philosophy of interprofessional patientfocused care delivery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
