Your Contribution to NRSI

NRSI is looking for a locally-situated, motivated and independent individuals to conduct monitoring activities in the field, primarily placing bird and bat test carcasses at an operating wind energy facility.

This position provides an opportunity to gain experience in visual bird and bat identification, to implement scientific methods, and to collect and analyze data employing a high attention to detail.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:

  • Taking well-organized and detailed field notes,
  • Communicating frequently and as required with project managers, other field staff, and clients,
  • Storing frozen bird and bat carcasses securely at home (freezer and carcasses provided),
  • Safely handling and placing thawed bird and bat carcasses beneath wind turbines early in the morning, according to strict schedules,
  • Occasional assistance with other field
- or office-related tasks.


Your Education:


  • A postsecondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma.

Requirements:


  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle insured for work purposes.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication.
  • Ability to work independently on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of wellorganized and detailed field notes.
  • Flexible schedule, as work would need to be completed on a variety of days each month, including some combination of Monday or Thursday and Tuesday or Friday.

Assets:


  • Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.
  • Experienced in recording UTMs using a handheld GPS or GPS app, and with the use of a compass.

Salary:
$22.00-$24.00 per hour commensurate on experience.
