    Job Summary

    The Senior Expert, Telecom solution and design Wireless is responsible for understanding the internal and external customer and utilizing technology to transform the business.

    The position's focus is directed towards the customer and uses leading technology to drive innovative, enhanced, streamlined, modern and cost-effective business enablement.

    Furthermore, the role defines and drives best-in-class telecom solution principles focused on business value, performance, security, measurability and process driven continuous improvement.

    Main Responsibilities
    Build Telecom solutions - 65%


    • Act as a thought leader for telecom design and solution wireless provides knowledge and coaching to stakeholders and peer wireless experts
    • Introduce and lead telecom wireless solution transformation.
    • Define the telecom transformation journey by developing the telecom vision, patterns, use cases, principles, strategy, operating model.
    • Understand CN's business and information technology to translate it into a telecom target solution to rapidly integrate new technologies to fuel CN digital transformation
    • Apply automation to generate information, make decisions, and execute process activities
    • Focus on the outcome rather than the problem
    • Focus on Design as a whole while peer experts deal with the individual parts of the design.
    • Put in place best-in-class telecom architecture processes for designing large scale and sophisticated technology systems
    • Work with peer experts, to produce and maintain appropriate relationships between business, information, application, technology, and Design experts to build consistent solutions
    • Ensure alignment with corporate information standards and policies, as well as all areas of enterprise architecture
    Technical Leadership - 20%


    • Look for and evaluate new practices and technology disruptors which may impact the telecom Design.
    • Incorporate new best practices into the telecom wireless design practice
    • Provide key input on technologies at CN to drive telecom transformation
    • Position the use of the new technology within the telecom Design.
    • Provide practical advice about telecom design and solution towards telecom automation
    • Work with peer experts to provide guidance on a comprehensive governance model to ensure solutions are developed according to the defined telecom solutions.
    Manage Relationships - 15%


    • Educate and explain how telecom solutions aids in achieving CN's business strategy and delivery of the expected business outcomes
    • Educate and explain the purpose, value and use of the various telecom design models
    • Educate and influence Information and Technology (I&T) so everyone understands telecom architecture strategy and outcomes
    • Be a champion for effective change
    • Communicate deliverables with stakeholders in Design, integration, operation, supply management, legal and various business lines
    Working Conditions
    The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.

    Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handles pressure and stress.

    The role requires minimal travel (20%) in accordance with CN policy for participating and or managing meetings with ecosystem partners, manufactures and business units or to attend and present during industry events, hold and present conferences with governmental and regulatory offices and other class 1 railroads.

    Requirements
    Experience


    • Minimum 20 years of experience in various telecom roles, with recent experience in Telecom transformation
    § Experience developing a telecom vision, principles, strategy, operating model in respect to telecommunication wireless solutions.
    § Demonstrated experience in applying a structured approach to problem resolution
    § Experience hosting large conferences with industry partners, business unit, governmental and regulatory offices.
    § Capable of writing technical documents consumable by executives V.P and or chair boards
    Education/Certification/Designation


    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, a related study, or equivalent related project experience
    • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
    • Internet protocol (IP) certified (Cisco or equivalent)

    • Knowledge of design thinking as well as best practices and latest trends in telecom Design and solution and wireless technologies (e.g., Wireless, Optical, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) core, Wide Area Network (WAN) access, Cloud, radio, cameras, Domain Name System (DNS) and telephony services)
    • Knowledge of the rail, transportation, or logistics industry**Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset

    The Senior Expert, Telecom Design and Solution and Wireless is responsible for developing and evolving the telecom design practice in conjunction with peer experts.

    This authority includes recommendations related to strategy, objectives, outcomes, people, process, information, and tools affecting the practice and business units.

    Level of Interaction/Influence
    The Senior Expert, Telecom Design and Solution and Wireless interacts with individuals internal and external to CN. Within the organization, the incumbent liaises with enterprise experts, solution experts, business units and delivery teams.

    Outside of CN, the role communicates with governmental and regulatory offices (Canada and the United States) , other class 1 railroads design, solutions and engineering departments as well as provides inputs to technology manufacturers.

    Employees Supervised/Organizational Structure

    The Senior Expert, Telecom Wireless Design and Solution reports to the Senior Manager, Service Operations and has no supervisory responsibility.
