The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for an Electrical Safety Codes Officer to join the Inspections and Licensing Team.
This role will be responsible to enforce the applicable discipline's safety codes, standards and regulations for the protection and safety of the public, by performing compliance monitoring functions (including plan checking, inspections, and follow-up), providing education and advice to the public, contractors, trade people, and professionals, and developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
This position is responsible for understanding the Safety Codes and corresponding Municipal Bylaws that integrate through out Inspection and Licensing responsibilities.
- A current knowledge of the Safety Codes Act and applicable regulations.
- A current knowledge of discipline specific codes and other regulations as required.
- Safety Codes Officer certification for the applicable discipline to provide all required levels of compliance monitoring services outlined in the City of Red Deer Quality Management Plan.
- Five years of specific discipline experience necessary to be familiar with all aspects of the discipline.
- Ability to become familiar with and follow the City of Red Deer Quality Management Plan and Department policies.
- Ability to work with considerable independence.
- Ability to accurately interpret the codes and regulations.
- Ability to complete detailed plan examinations and inspections of all types/complexities of installations, to determine if the intent of applicable codes and standards is being followed,
- Ability to provide a high level of accuracy and judgment.
- Ability to exert light physical effort in performing inspection at construction sites.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
- Ability to exercise care and observe safety precautions when working at construction sites.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with professionals, contractors, trades people and the public, responses to questions and explanation of issues arising from the plan review or site inspection(s),
- Valid Alberta Driver's License.

Remuneration:
$39.44 to $54.77 per hour.
Hours of Work:
75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
