Summary:


Better at Home (BH) is a program that helps Seniors with simple, non-medical, home support services, so that they can continue to live independently in their own homes and remain connected to their communities.

The Housekeeping Support Worker primarily provides light housekeeping support to Seniors living in their own homes, using predominantly the client's supplies.

The Housekeeping Support service focuses on safety and hygiene, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and floors.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provides light housekeeping services as agreed with client, which may include:
  • Vacuum area carpets and rugs
  • Sweep hard surface floors
  • Wet mop hard surface floors
  • Wipe down countertops
  • Dust surfaces
  • Clean bathroom sink, tub, shower, toilet, handles, mirror
  • Loading/unloading laundry from machine
  • Assists with taking out garbage or recycling if needed
  • Schedules all client visits, and communicates any changes or cancellations in a timely manner
  • Maintains records of all client visits
  • Communicates with Program Lead regarding changes to client needs or other requests
  • Builds rapport with clients and develops trusting relationships
  • Maintains up to date knowledge about available services in the community for older adults
  • Communicates knowledge to clients about available services for older adults
  • Attends all BH staff meetings and training
  • Provides cleaning services as outlined in the first bullet point for designated SCCSS facilities as needed
  • Collaborates with other SCCSS programs to enrich program delivery and fulfill our mission more effectively
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of SCCSS including participating in organizational wide initiatives as interested or requested
  • Ensures effective service delivery consistent with SCCSS mandate and policy, meeting all legal, contractual financial and other compliance requirements
  • Stays current with SCCSS programs and services, and safety protocols
  • Assists with other duties as required, aiding with the efficient operation of the BH program and SCCSS organization.

Qualifications and Skills Required:


  • Prior housekeeping experience required
  • Experience with, or genuine interest in working with older adults
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly, caring, and respectful manner
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • Excellent organizational skills for client appointment scheduling
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Ability to follow strict health and safety protocols
  • First Aid & CPR training an asset
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Successful results of criminal records check
