Job Overview
The Room Attendant is responsible for cleaning guest rooms and assigned areas in a timely and thorough manner to ensure total guest satisfaction. This role plays a vital part in maintaining the hotel's high standards of cleanliness, comfort, and presentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and service assigned guest rooms and areas according to established standards and procedures, including making beds, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, and removing trash.
- Clean kitchen areas when applicable, including refrigerators, coffee makers, cups, glasses, and silverware.
- Notify supervisor when service is complete so rooms may be sold or occupied.
- Report any room that cannot be serviced according to established procedures.
- Report maintenance issues, needed repairs, or unsafe conditions to supervisor promptly.
- Respond to guest complaints and special requests, ensuring corrective action is taken to achieve full guest satisfaction.
- Monitor and control housekeeping supplies and amenities to minimize waste.
- Maintain linen cart and supplies in a neat and organized manner according to departmental standards.
- Ensure the security of equipment, keys, and supplies issued daily.
- Report, log, and turn in all lost and found items following established procedures.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Assist with deep cleaning projects as required.
- Perform turndown service duties when assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned while following all Company and Marriott Brand Standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Previous housekeeping experience preferred.
- Friendly, hospitality-focused attitude.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills.
- Problem-solving abilities and a positive work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to move throughout guest rooms, hallways, and service areas.
- Handling cleaning equipment, linens, and guest room supplies.
Other
- Communication skills are utilized when interacting with guests, supervisors, and team members.
- Reading and writing skills are used for completing room assignment sheets and housekeeping logs.
- May be required to work weekends and holidays.
- Work Area: Guest rooms, hallways, housekeeping storage areas, and public spaces.
Health and Safety
- Follow all safe work procedures outlined in departmental policies, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulations in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Labour.
- Report all workplace injuries or illnesses immediately to a supervisor or manager.
- Participate in health and safety initiatives and bring concerns to the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
