Human Resources (HR) Generalist
The Alzheimer Society of Durham Region (ASDR) is a community support service organization that provides programs and services to people living with dementia and their care partners in Durham Region.
We work closely with other service providers to ensure quality care and support for our clients to achieve our mission to improve the quality of life of people living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and their care partners.
We employ administrative and fund development staff, educators, social workers, social service workers, nurses, occupational therapists, recreation staff, and volunteers who work together as a team to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their care partners.

As a Human Resources (HR) Generalist you will be working under the Director of Operations. The Human ResourcesGeneralist involves addressing issues raised by current employees and new hires, organizing, and scheduling orientations, and onboardings, and coordinating other HR functions.
What you will be doingResponsibility :
Human Resources
- Provides administrative support to the new employees onboarding process, including compiling, and confirming all onboarding documents and orientation
- Maintains and updates confidential employee records and filing systems, including preparing and inputting paperwork for new hires, internal staff changes, and terminations
- Fosters positive employee working environment by implementing professional development opportunities and initiatives
- Manages employee relations issues in a confidential manner, including disciplinary actions, compensations, disputes. Responds to inquiries or requests and provides assistance based on established processes and guidelines
- Works closely with Finance in ensuring contracts, pays and benefits are most uptodate and accurate.
- Responsible for HRIS software administration and maintenance
- Responsible to update employee vacation and sick time accruals on a monthly basis
- Works closely with HR resources of Alzheimer Society of Ontario (ASO) in providing information and recommendations with respect to human resources services, policies, strategies and reports including relevant legislation and on emerging trends.
- Supports managers in performance management process with coaching, corrective actions, improvement plans, goal setting and performance reviews
- Supports job evaluations process
- Ensure Health and Safety initiatives are met by creating a healthy and safe working environment
- Responsible for annual review of HR, Quality Improvement, & Health and Safety policies along with policy formulation as required
- Assists inhouse and external training activities and evaluations; maintains training documentation
- Assists with annual rewards and recognition
- Updates job requirements and job descriptions for all positions
- Assists the CEO with HR planning and staffing budgets.
- Assists in preparing, updating Employee Manual, human resource policies and procedures annually
- Contributes to HR quality improvement initiatives including employee surveys, staff feedback and evaluations
- Active involvement in agency related committees, events, and fundraising initiatives
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Education:
- Postsecondary education in Human Resource Management or relevant field
- CHRP/CHRL designation or actively working towards the designation is preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of Human Resource experience required
- High level of composure and demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fastpaced environment where there is a need to be able to effectively manage multiple tasks/assignments at the same time
- Judgement exercised in prioritizing workflow and use discretion with highly confidential and sensitive employee information
- Demonstrated organizational/time management skills meeting deadlines
- Displays tact, diplomacy, good judgement and use discretion with highly confidential and sensitive employee information
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
- Ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment and able to work independently
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
