    A multifaceted opportunity natural resource management


The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) has been created to support and enable natural resource sector wide integrated decision-making and provide a pathway to economic activity, environmental sustainability, advancing Indigenous reconciliation.

WLRS will seek to build a new vision for land and resource management in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base.


The primary focus of the Land and Resource Specialist is to develop creative management solutions to strategic resource management issues.

The position bridges environmental, social and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, ministry priorities and strategies, and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes.

The Land and Resource Specialist will lead diverse project team of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion.

The position deals with complex natural resource issues involving multiple stakeholders and First Nations.


This Land and Resource Specialist position will primarily be responsible for integrating different initiatives and programs in the Skeena Region.


Job Requirements:


  • A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training plus, 5 or more years' experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Training in project management or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Significant experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., subproject) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience in managing project teams.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders.
  • Experience with implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience with conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Experience working in an Environmental Stewardship Initiative and Collaborative Stewardship Framework forum.
  • Experience working in collaboration to develop monitoring and assessment methodology.

Provisos:


  • Valid B.C. driver's license.
  • You are willing to travel for work, including some possible travel in adverse weather conditions (i.e., winter in northern B.C.) and in some arrangements specific to the job (e.g., helicopter use, driving on natural resource roads).
  • You are interested in working in a matrix management environment, where you may report to different people at similar or different times as work evolves.
  • You are interested and able to work in an environment where you strive for balancing different priorities in your work, that may sometimes appear or be in conflict.

About this Position:


This position can be based in any of the following Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship offices: Burns Lake, Smithers, Terrace.


Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
