HOURLY RATE:
$21.56

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Neighbourhood Group is currently seeking an experienced Child and Youth Worker for a position in our Kidz Klub, Gems Jr and Gems programs.

Reporting to the Manager, Children and Youth Services, the

Child and Youth Worker will plan and implement an engaging program for the children in the after school and young women's programs.

This position reports to Manager, Child and Youth Services and is part of
CUPE Local 7797.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Facilitate program for children and youth ages 518 in the Kidz Klub, Gems Jr and Gems programs.
Plan and implement stimulating, creative, agespecific, social, educational and recreational activities based on the needs of participants in each individual program.
Provide a stimulating and creative program based on children and youth's needs, and with sensitivity to the diverse ethnocultural backgrounds.
Work with the participants as a group while remaining aware of each individual's needs.
Form a positive relationship with children and youth and be a role model while demonstrating strong leadership skills.
Demonstrate the ability to work in harmony with team members and be able to work independently.
Ensure the safety and supervision of program participants during program activities on and off site.
May supervise volunteers at times.
Facilitate full day programming on school P.A Days
Complete outreach for the programs and use community resources to plan special events and trips in the programs.
Other Duties assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

2 years postsecondary education in a related field (I.e. teaching, social work, child & youth), recreation background and/or equivalent work experience
Two years' work experience as a tutor, mentor, youth worker or related experience
Minimum 1 year experience in the areas of strengths and capacities of children and youth, as well as barriers and challenges.
Knowledge of general issues affecting children, youth, and families in TNG's catchment area
Sensitivity and experience working with people of diverse communities such as varied racial, cultural, and socio

- economic groups

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
Must be punctual and reliable (arriving at work on time, consistently and prepared)
Experience in volunteer management is an asset
Current First Aid/CPR.
