    Work Arrangements
    The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a Coordinator for the Department of Criminology and Legal Studies.

    This position takes effect September 1, 2024 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension(s) up to a maximum of three years.

    This role has three sections of time release available for the academic year (not including the delivery of CRIM 3345).

    The Role
    Coordinator - Criminology Practicum.

    Responsibilities


    • Negotiate, arrange and supervise practicum placements for students registered in the CRIM BA degree program
    • Create and maintain ongoing networks with community organizations, agencies and service providers
    • Develop advisory committee for yearly feedback
    • Prepare and deliver Practicum course ( CRIM 3345)
    • Conduct site visits and evaluate practicum placements
    • Advise and prepare students planning to register in CRIM 3345
    • Consult with service learning coordinators, co-op, field school and other practicum providers at Douglas College and other relevant institutions
    • Ensure ethical standards are fulfilled in practicum placements
    • Liaise with Criminology Chair and BA Coordinator regarding practicum opportunities and students
    • Maintain ongoing records of student and agency participation, for use in BA program and department reviews
    • Create and maintain an ongoing database of CRIM student learning placement and supervisors
    • Organize events for students/faculty to engage with external agency partners
    • Create promotional materials for the practicum program
    • Provide recognition to agency partners to maintain effective, long-term relationships
    • Participate in information sessions for future students and prospective BA degree program students To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
    • A faculty member in the Criminology Department
    • A strong working knowledge of the criminal justice and/or related fields where there is good potential for student practicum opportunities is preferred
