Job Summary

  • At Dalhousie's School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES), we've been working towards a more sustainable future for more than 40 years by offering graduate education in environmental management, science and policy. Reporting to the Director of SRES, the School Administrator, provides direction and advice to the Director and is responsible for carrying out the daytoday administration of the School including financial administration, personnel management, physical resources management, academic internship component of the Master of Resource and Environmental Management (MREM) program, and internal and external liaison functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate annual operating budget submission; authorize and control budget expenditures for operating account; audit financial statements, analyze variances, project implications, implement remedial transfer to correct. Advise Director on financial matters.
  • Provide financial support and guidance to faculty members with external research grants and contracts.
  • Manage hiring process for all faculty, parttime academics, and staff using PeopleAdmin and liaise with Dean's office and HR.
  • Oversee allocation of space, assigning of office space to students, parttime academics, postdocs, retirees, and other visitors.
  • Liaise with various federal, provincial, and municipal government departments; mainly in role as MREM Internship coordinator and SITE liaison as well as advising alumni on potential job contacts post graduation.
  • Manages staff and student employees.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, plus approximately five years' related administrative and management experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Must have financial and analytical skills, as well as leadership and management skills.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
