What You Will Get To Do


Reporting to the Program Manager, Events, Culture and Tourism, the Culture and Tourism Coordinator's prime functions are to develop, implement and coordinate the actions of the Town of Whitby's 10 - year Culture Plan to advance the Town's cultural initiatives and programs including development of a public art policy and program, maintaining the culture inventory and developing creative ideas to achieve the actions.

On the tourism side, the incumbent will implement and coordinate action items from the Town's Tourism Strategy including projects focused on destination development, generating content for the tourism microsite, overseeing tourism social media content, facilitate industry network and training sessions.

The position will act as a liaison for industry stakeholder and partners in both culture and tourism.


Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing, coordinating and monitoring actions in Whitby's Culture Plan;
- coordinating, leading and supporting activities, initiatives and events with both internal and external stakeholders;
- developing and administering the Town's Public Art Policy and Program;
- developing the annual work plan including researching emerging cultural trends and maintain associated budget administration for Culture Plan initiatives;
- in collaboration with Department staff, coordinating the Town's destination development initiatives and implementation of the Tourism Strategy;
- writing Council reports and memo's on Culture Plan and Tourism initiatives, annual
- update reports, including benchmarking data (KPIs);
- prepare logical and detailed project plans;
- writing webpage copy, media release details and other details required for
- marketing and promotion of culture and tourism initiatives;
- building and maintaining productive working relationships with cultural stakeholders and partners, local accommodators, businesses, tourism partners and local assets, and facilitate connections/relationships among these groups to create a strong network to facilitate implementation of the Culture Plan and Tourism Strategy;
