    Since 1997, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) has been dedicated to ensuring safety on behalf of the Ontario Government. Situated in West Toronto, TSSA operates as a self-funded, not-for-profit organization with a team of around 400 employees spread across Ontario.     We are presently seeking to hire anInspectorfor ourElevating Devices Program. This position will be based in the Western Ontario region. The specific location will be determined upon completion of the training program. Preference will be given to candidates residing in or willing to relocate to this region.

    Position Summary:

    Inspectors fall under the purview of the Ontario Public Service Employee Union - OPSEU/SEFPO, Local 546. As an Inspector, your primary responsibility will involve conducting on-site inspections of elevating devices to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations. Depending on your assigned area, you may also be tasked with inspecting amusement devices.

    In addition to inspections, you will play a crucial role in public and industry education on current and emerging safety priorities. A strong passion for safety is essential as you contribute towards creating a safer Ontario.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Perform various inspections of elevating, amusement, and ski lift devices to ensure adherence to relevant legislation, codes, and standards
    • Address non-compliance issues by conducting investigations, supporting prosecution cases, and providing expert testimony
    • Conduct on-site inspections of incidents and equipment failures while responding to public inquiries regarding safety concerns
    • Collaborate with team members to enhance overall performance and identify opportunities for service improvement
    • Provide feedback on investigations, write clear and concise reports, and analyze patterns of non-compliance
    • Identify and propose solutions for recurring inspection issues that do not meet TSSA standards
    • Manage individual targets to align with program budget requirements

    Job Qualifications:

    • Completion of a certification in mechanical, electrical, engineering, or millwright fields
    • Demonstrated experience in mechanical, electrical, engineering, or millwright domains
    • Proficiency in Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Knowledge of Technical Standards & Safety Act related to elevating devices
    • Ability to self-manage schedule and collaborate effectively with supervisors and scheduling teams
    • Possession of a valid Ontario driver's license for daily travel obligations
    • Elevating Device Mechanic certificate or equivalent would be advantageous
    • Current Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification would be beneficial
    • Practical experience in the elevating industry is preferred

    *Salary discussions will be based on education, work experience, and licensing.
