TEMPORARY CARETAKER - FLOATER


The Upper Grand District School Board's 3,000 plus dedicated teaching and support staff provide student success to over 35,000 students who attend our 65 elementary schools and 11 secondary schools in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington and County of Dufferin.

The Upper Grand District School Board is situated on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit and Saugeen Ojibway Nation, and Six Nations of the Grand River within The Haldimand Tract.

LOCATION:

Locations will vary and change throughout the UGDSB with multiple school assignments in one day; Access to your personal vehicle is required.


  • Areas for this position include but are not limited to, Orangeville, Shelburne, North Wellington._

HOURLY RATE:
$21.37 per hour


HOURS:
The Temporary Caretaker - Floater position can pick up shifts anywhere between 3:00 pm and 12:00 am. However, there is no guarantee of working hours per week.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • General cleaning of classrooms, offices, cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, washrooms, and all related areas as directed by the Head Caretaker, Shift Supervisor or designate
  • Clean and wax all floors to preserve the floor surface as required, dust mop and damp mop all floors and corridors
  • Damp mop washroom floors with germicidal detergent
  • Ensure washrooms are always kept in a clean sanitary condition
  • Washroom fixtures and dispensers are to be disinfected as required and dispensers are to be kept adequately supplied
  • Remove marks from walls, doors, and all surfaces as necessary,
  • Clean glass surfaces inside and outside as required
  • Responsible for snow removal and treatment of icy areas from entrances and steps and other pedestrian areas as required for the safety of students, staff, and community use, including ensuring safe access to portables
  • Maintain furniture, equipment, and fixtures in a sanitized and dustfree manner
  • Report any malfunction of electrical equipment to the Head Caretaker or Shift Supervisor, emergencies must be reported to Plant Operations
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies in the caretaker supply room
  • Replace burned out lights and carry out minor maintenance as required or report such maintenance needs to Head Caretaker and/or Shift Supervisor
  • Remove waste daily and deposit in appropriate waste bins
  • Responsible for maintaining the security of the school
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed
  • Follow good housekeeping practices
  • Maintain Board tools in good repair
  • Comply with all requirements of the OHSA, Electrical Code, Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, WHMIS and Board policies
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain a work schedule with minimum supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Passion for a positive customer service experience with staff, students, and the public
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to perform all requirements of the position, including using ladders and scaffolds
  • Current Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS program
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks

PREFERRED SKILLS:


  • Prior cleaning experience in an institutional or commercial environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Basic understanding of heating and ventilation equipment
