Supervisor Job Duties and Responsibilities

Overview of Position


The Supervisor assists the Assistant Director and the Executive Director with the daily management of the centre, the provision of high-quality early learning and childcare and provides supervision and leadership to ALL employees as required by the Assistant Director and the Director.

The Supervisor will be a liaison to the staff for the Executive Director.


Education and Training:


  • Must be a qualified ECE II or ECE III
  • Must have a completed 2year diploma in Early Childhood Education through a recognized institute in Manitoba or have completed the Competency Based Assessment recognized by the Early Learning and Child Care Program
  • Participate in a minimum of 24 hours of Professional Development activities annually
  • Must be certified in First Aid and CPR relevant to the age group being cared for
  • Circle of Security understanding desirable

Experience Required:


  • Experience working with children in a variety of age groups
  • Past or present experience as a lead ECE
  • Experience implementing an ageappropriate curriculum
  • Experience guiding and supporting a team while finding supportive resources when required
  • Familiarity with Policies and Procedures within a centre and mandated Government Regulations
  • Knowledge of Best Practices
  • Previous experience in management desirable

Responsibilities:


Heath and Safety

  • Implementing Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, while complying with Fire and Health regulations including fire drills, evacuation plans and use of extinguishers
  • Familiar with Our Code of Conduct and Safety Enhancement Plan
  • Ensure toys and equipment are maintained and safe, indoors, and outdoors.
  • Ensure medication is being administered and recorded
  • Report incidents and injuries to the Assistant Director and Director, while ensuring documenting and reporting are being done effectively
  • Ensuring all our Best Practices are being followed and implemented
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of all program equipment
  • Ensure staff are trained with Child Abuse protocols, infectious diseases guidelines and Workplace Health and Safety procedures
  • Ensure staff are directed to Employee Assistance when needed
  • Perform and delegate house cleaning duties
  • Familiar with Transportation procedures as needed.
  • Ensure staff that are without returned Child Abuse and Criminal Record Checks are not being left alone on the floor.
  • Ensure cleaning products are made correctly and stored properly
  • Ensure children with Uris plans are up to date and staff have access and knowledge to them
  • Ensure the centre is clean and debris free
  • Ensure First Aid kits are stocked
  • Ensure proper hygiene is being followed in the areas of diapering, toileting, eating and napping

Professionalism

  • Maintaining strong relationships with families and other professionals
  • Provide leadership to staff and assisting in training new staff
  • Act as a Liaison between the staff and the Director
  • Ensuring a positive and gossip free work environment
  • Remain highly professional when handling delicate or sensitive situations
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrate and maintain Ethical behaviour
  • Assisting in annual reviews on staff
  • Disciplining and redirecting staff when infractions are being made
  • Accompanying the Director or Assistant Director in the termination of employees when needed
  • Ensure staff have access to professional development resources
  • Work with educational institutions to achieve common goals
  • Attend and potentially run staff meetings and contribute to them to enhance the center as needed
  • Maintain appropriate work habits such as punctuality and regular attendance

Program

  • Implementing an enriching ageappropriate program
  • Assist programs when needed with their budgets
  • Call in substitutes when needed and change shifts accordingly for successful operations
  • Ensuring all our Best Practices are being followed and implemented
  • Assist with potential administrative work when needed
  • Respond to mail and other correspondence daily
  • Ensure proper supplies and equipment are being purchased and replaced when needed
  • Ensuring proper documentation is taking place for children who may require ISP funding
  • Ensure attendance of children is being done regularly and effectively
  • Ensure staff are meeting the emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development of the children to the best of their abilities
  • Ensure staff are implementing their daily schedule posted
  • Be a part of the program and assist in programming and nurturing
  • Strong Communication skills with the Assistant Director and Director on any concerns within the center regarding parents, children, or staffing
  • Display and ensure staff are displaying a nurturing and empathetic tone while acknowledging children's accomplishments and challenges
  • Be flexible working different shifts when needed
