Position Overview:


The Administrator directs all functions of the facility in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors in compliance with all regulatory guidelines and within fiscal capacity, in order to accomplish the strategic and operating objectives of the facility.

The incumbent provides leadership in achieving efficient, economical and effective utilization of home resources to meet the selected needs of the residents through quality personal care.

Responsibilities:


  • Direct and manage all activities of the facility in accordance with company mission, vision, and values statement, strategic plan and approved budget
  • Implement approved policies; for liaison with the Board, the professional staff and the provincial government departments
  • Responsible for nursing home licensing with the Department of Health and accreditation with Canadian Council Health Services Accreditation.
  • Ensure that the internal structures support the efficient and effective operation of the facility
  • Ensure the provision of quality personal care services through the acquisition, utilization and organization of available human, financial and physical resources and through the development of improved techniques and practices
  • Establish, maintain and enhance required systems and procedures to ensure optimum use of the facility's resources
  • Provide for ongoing review of resource utilization, and indicate corrective action
  • Organizes the functions of the facility through appropriate structure and staffing and through the delegation of authority and responsibility to appropriate subordinates
  • Establish formal means of accountability with subordinates
  • Ensure that all managers receive, understand and communicate strategic and operational plans, general policies, and organizational plans to immediate subordinates
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of effective job descriptions, performance standards, and formal individual goals and objectives for management and supervisory personnel
  • Facilitate and maintain open dialogue with senior management and professional staff to ensure coordination of the facility's activities and programs in agreement with the mission, vision and values statement, and the policies of the facility
  • Obtain Board approval prior to the release of any media
  • Approve employment and termination of employees
  • Ensure salaries are in keeping with the approved salary scale/Collective Agreement
  • Keep the Board informed on a timely basis of the condition of the facility and material factors influencing it
  • Ensure that new managers are well orientated with the facility and its operations
  • Ensure that a continuing education program is routinely provided to staff
  • Participate in negotiation of the labour contract and directly supervise the grievance and discipline procedures of the facility
  • Facilitate the conduct of Board approved scientific, medical, or social research requiring senior or nursing care settings
  • Participate with the Board in establishing strategic goals and objectives for the facility based on the identified needs of the community
  • Establish and revise the longrange plan which supports the facility's mission, vision and values statement and its established strategic objectives, roles, and priorities.
  • Annually seek approval from the Board for the strategic plan as updated or revised
  • Establish with the assistance of senior management and professional staff, the facility's annual operation plan.
  • Annually seek approval for the operational and business plan from the Board
  • Review progress monthly or as needed and recommends plan amendments for approval by the Board
  • Recommend to the Board those positions which the facility should take regarding legislation, government, inter health care institution relations and other matters affecting public policy
  • Develop, implement and regularly test a plan to respond to fire and other emergencies, or disasters which may arise at the facility or in the community
  • Facilitate the strategic planning process for the facility, ensuring goals, objectives and action plans are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and have time lines
  • Maintain familiarity with the daily care of the residents
  • Be knowledgeable of to the general health status, financial, social, psychological, spiritual, physical, and family needs of the residents in order to best support them
