Analyzes a wide variety of projects and capital orders to determine appropriate asset class and ensure that criteria for capitalization are met.

Discusses the rationale of asset class coding selections and policy variances with document originators. Resolves coding anomalies. Arranges for timely closing of projects and capital orders. Creates new assets as required. Maintains final settlement rules in project work breakdown structure (WBS) elements and capital order in SAP.

Processes plant retirement requests for the most involved classes of plant by verifying Property Retirement Unit ("PRU") and historical cost data.

Interprets and applies PRU definitions and recommends additions, changes and/or deletions.

Prepares analyses of historical asset cost detail for plant retirement to identify and determine the accounting and asset valuation method to ensure the appropriate asset value is being retired.

Participates in the development of definitions for the PRU catalogue in discussion with originators of Distribution and Transmission plant projects.

Responds to a variety of inquiries related to our capital assets.

Compiles information and prepares special reports in response to inquiries from management and external bodies such as the BCUC, external auditors, and other government agencies.

Prepares reports for capital additions, retirements, removal/dismantling costs and salvage proceeds, depreciation/amortization expenses for the external and tax auditors and analyzes variances on actual amounts.

Maintains asset database in Asset Management module of SAP. Prepares asset transfers, retirements and adjustments including capitalized overhead allocation in the asset database.
Reconciles month-end settlement runs. Manually settles orders and projects that are not part of the automated settlement run. Works with various groups to resolve any discrepancies.
Continuously reviews assets that are in service to ensure they have been properly coded and makes any required adjustments.

Develops and maintains a wide knowledge of product models, BCUC codes, general ledger accounts, cost elements, policies, and procedures related to capital assets.

Acts as a resource and provides training to various business units on asset classes, importance of the settlement rule, proper use of service products and material types and asset accounting policies and procedures.

Participates with IT in the development of system enhancements to improve the efficiency of data flows and accuracy of the asset database.

Communicates with the various business units and IT regarding business process improvements and provides recommendations and suggestions to help resolve issues and problems.

Compiles and maintains a complete data base record of length of pipe added and length of pipe removed per division.

Runs various reports in SAP and Business Warehouse to compile the data and analyze the variances.
Maintains Master facility identification number (FID) listing and creates new FID numbers when requested.

Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

Requirements
Successful completion of a Diploma from a recognized accounting, finance or relatedprogram from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Three years experience in an accounting or analyst role includingg demonstrated, in-depth working knowledge of the accounting and financial reporting requirements related to asset accounting and asset analysis techniques
Demonstrated good communication, organizational, analytical, judgment and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated courteous and professional manner including the ability to work independently and as a team member.
Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
