Materials Manager:
Definition
Under the supervision of the VP-Production Manager, the incumbent is responsible for managing the materials department, including the warehouse, receiving / shipping, inventory process, procurement and internal transportation.
To this end, he / she performs the following tasks:
Materials management
- Take charge of the annual inventory and ensure that it is maintained throughout the year
- Ensure the proper functioning of materials management processes, creating new ones as needed
- Create, manage and respect the budget for the materials department
- Manage the procurement process
- Enforce purchasing procedure and ensure compliance
Store management
- Responsible for the availability and quality of equipment and consumables to support production
- Prepare purchase lists for consumables and tools to be ordered. Receive purchases made for the warehouse
- Manage uniforms, lockers, vending machines, gas detectors and chemical products
- Manage the employee onboarding and offboarding process, i.e. tool boxes, lockers, PINs for vending machines and uniform required by job title
Human resources management
- Manage employees under his/her responsibility (performance appraisals, communication, skills development, discipline, etc.)
- Share and promote the corporate culture across departments, emphasizing mission, vision and values
- Perform all administrative tasks (timesheets, absence requests, etc.)
Health and safety management
- Act as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) leader, ensuring compliance and enforcement of HSE policies and procedures
Continuous improvement
- Develop strategies to optimize productivity, costs and reduce losses and/or expenses, using best practice tools (Lean, 5 S, etc.) in collaboration with the Production Manager
Required training and experience
- AEC in procurement and/or inventory management (asset)
- 5 years' experience in a similar position
- 2 to 5 years management experience
Technical skills
- Purchasing / procurement
- Shipping / receiving
- Inventory / warehouse management
- Knowledge of ERP system
- Proficiency in Office suite (Word, Excel)
