Job description
Build something people love

Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money.

Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone.

We're the largest fintech company in Canada, with 3+ million users who trust us with more than $100 billion in assets.

And we're just getting started.

We're looking for someone who thinks big, sweats the small stuff and keeps things simple.

You'll join a high-bar, fast-paced team where people are trusted to own their work, communicate openly, and ship things that improve our clients' lives.

Collaboration, humility, and an obsession over quality are how we get stuff done.

Be a part of our Canadian success story and help shape the financial future of millions. Read our Culture Manual and learn more about how we work.

Your career is an investment that grows over time

Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money.

Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone.

We're the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 3+ million users who trust us with more than $100 billion in assets.

Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas.

We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.

Internships @ Wealthsimple

At Wealthsimple, we offer 4 to 8-month internships that are open to co-op and non-co-op students, and recent grads.

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that are changing the landscape of financial services for Canadians.

You will be on a team that supports your growth, provides mentorship, and connects you to the broader Wealthsimple community

Our internship program follows a hybrid work model, where you'll be working from our Toronto headquarters on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This structure offers the flexibility of remote work, while also providing the collaboration, connection, and mentorship that come from being together in person.

Eligibility

Currently enrolled as a student at a Canadian post-secondary institution or technical bootcamp

New graduates - Within 6 months of your graduation date

Available to work full-time hours

Residing in Canada

Able to commute to our Toronto HQ on Wednesdays and Thursdays

About the role:
Wealthsimple is seeking an Intern, Public Affairs to join our Government Affairs team.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Public Affairs, you will support Wealthsimple's advocacy on behalf of our clients and financial services consumers.

Your work will focus on securing positive changes including a ban on investment account transfer fees, the implementation of open banking and the Real-Time Rail, a regulatory framework for Canadian stablecoins, and more.

This role will be closed for applications on Monday February 23rd 11:59PM EST

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:
Support Wealthsimple's engagement with elected officials, public servants, regulators and agencies to advance our advocacy goals.
Analyze internal data to identify compelling narratives for public affairs audiences, translating client insights into powerful advocacy.
Author policy communications including briefing notes, consultation submissions, executive communications and stakeholder presentations.
Research and monitor policy and legislative developments affecting financial services, including consultations, debates, committee hearings and political announcements.
Work with external agencies and industry associations.

What you'll bring:
Recently completed or currently enrolled in a postgraduate program in Public Policy, Political Science, Law or similar.
Demonstrated interest in a career in public policy or government relations through prior internships or activities.

Ability to quickly get up to speed on Canada's financial services landscape, including banking, capital markets, payments, tax, crypto and more.

Existing expertise is a plus, but what's most important is that you can quickly gain it.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to take complex issues and communicate them in the Wealthsimple way: concise, jargon-free and human.

Experience drawing compelling narratives from quantitative datasets.
Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work both independently and in a team.
