Job Summary


As an Expert Program/Project manager, you will be responsible for leading, building and coordinating new initiatives in the Office of the CITO.

Some of these initiatives include (but aren't limited to) Capacity and Resource Planning, the evolution of the Operating Model, CN's Realignment Program, implementation of Governance across I&T, establishing Centres of Excellence; implementation of Silo and Collaboration action plans as well as actioning critical issues that affect the I&T enterprise.

You will work closely with I&T Leadership including the office of the CITO to ensure alignment across I&T to Office of the CITO initiatives.

You will oversee all aspects of the [assigned] program/project(s), including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, ensuring accurate allocation of resources, tracking, monitoring, and summarizing progress of the program/project.

You will build and maintain working relationships with team members, vendors, and other departments involved in the project. You will guide and coach the project specialists' within your project/program. You will actively participate in the deployment of project governance, standards & best practices. You will also prepare reports for upper management regarding the status of the initiatives. Strong leadership is essential with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple mandates.


Main Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies and new initiatives for the Office of the CITO
  • Manage rollouts of projects/initiatives enhancements using effective implementation planning,
collaborating with Organizational Change Management (OCM), and training

  • Develop presentation deliverables related to projects
  • Facilitate meetings related to projects
  • Work with crossfunctional teams on assigning tasks, establishing deliverables and scheduling of
those tasks and deliverables

  • Obtain approvals from primary stakeholder(s) and control project scope, priorities, and schedule
  • Contribute to thoughtful and creative discussions with executive sponsor(s), stakeholders,
department and division management on strategic goals, resources, scheduling, plans and

challenges

  • Assist with the utilization of resources for project planning activities
  • Manage the daytoday projects/logistics and the corresponding communication for each project
  • Understand CN's Operating model, (and/or) have the willingness to learn and become an Operating
Model expert

  • Champion adoption of the Operating Model and all Office of the CITO initiatives
  • Manage project management reporting, including tracking each critical step, outcomes, and final
deliverables

  • Develop, review, and revise project management processes to ensure all steps are completed in an
efficient manner

  • Provide an extremely high level of service to stakeholders
  • Manage a highly complex business calendar with a keen sense of prioritization and time management
to ensure maximum effectiveness of time use

  • Exercise independent discretion and judgment to solve complex problems regarding project,
department, or division-related work

  • Perform ad hoc business analysis requests and carry out administrative / management functions as
required

  • Identify program/project milestones, critical success factors, risks, and resource requirements
  • Ensure project transparency with timely and clear progress updates to senior management
  • Negotiates changes in scope, budget or schedule with sponsor and steering committee, and ensure
adherence to change management process

  • Able to work under pressure, flexible during times of change and reacts to project adjustments and
alterations promptly and efficiently, while maintaining business value and respecting project deadlines

  • Work with Organizational Change Management (OCM) specialists to communicate and implement changes as needed

Competencies

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of IT project/program management experience or comparable

Education/Certification/Designation
***- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Commerce, or equivalent

  • PMP or PgMP certification (or equivalent) or desire to complete.

Skills/Knowledge
***- Knowledge (or strong desire to learn) of the rail transportation business and related operational

and supply chain processes

  • Strong capacity to communicate and willingness to work with executives
